The SofiaSweater is worked back and forth in one piece.
It begins at the lower ribbed hem of the front. Then, stockinette stitch is worked straight up.
For the light batwing sleeves, stitches are increased on both sides until the desired sleeve length is reached. Next, the entire width of the front and both sleeves is worked straight up, with sleeve edges added on both sides.
Cable pattern strips are then placed at about elbow height to create sleeve gathers. The gathering can be adjusted for a moderate or stronger effect.
For the front neckline, the center stitches are bound off, and both sides are finished separately to the shoulders to shape the neckline. The stitches are then joined again, and work continues over all stitches. For the back neckline, new stitches are cast on.
The sleeve gathering with cable pattern strips is continued steadily. When the cable strips on the back match the length of those on the front, stockinette stitch is worked again over all stitches with sleeve edges on both sides. Then, decreases for the sleeve shaping begin.
When the stitch count for the back is reduced to its original number, stockinette stitch is worked with edge stitches. Finally, the narrow ribbed hem is worked. After binding off the stitches, the side seams are sewn.
To finish, stitches are picked up all around the neckline and bound off immediately with an I-Cord edge.
